Key Features

Pet Corrector - What is the Pet Corrector and how does it work?

The patented Pet Corrector emits a hiss of compressed gas to interrupt a dog's unwanted behaviour e.g. barking or jumping up. The noise is similar to the hiss warning sound made by a cat or snake, which interrupts and distracts the dog so that the owner can insert a positive command such as 'sit' or 'down' and reward accordingly.

Important Advice:

  • Pet Corrector should not be used on young pets such as puppies and kittens, any pets that are particularly noise sensitive, or pets with a nervous disposition.
  • If you think your dog might be exhibiting unwanted behaviours due to anxiety e.g. barking due to separation anxiety, speak to your vet or a professional dog behaviourist.

Barking

Barking is a normal behaviour for most dogs. However excessive territorial barking in the car or at house visitors is a common complaint of dog owners. For this situation the Pet Corrector can be really useful. If the crescendo of the dog's barking becomes too much, interrupt with the Pet Corrector whilst issuing a 'quiet' command. After two or three such applications, just the command should be sufficient.

NB. If you think your dog might be barking due to severe separation anxiety speak to your vet or a professional dog behaviourist.

Stealing

Dogs do have to learn certain key rules of the house, such as not to steal or mouth certain items such as food or shoes. Puppies and untrained rescue dogs educated with verbal commands such as 'leave' and rewarding for correct behaviour. For determined adult dogs, the Pet Corrector can be used as an additional aid alongside this training. One or two well-timed releases of the Pet Corrector (pointing away from your pet) should be sufficient for your dog to associate the negative stimulus with his behaviour, therefore discouraging him in future.

Jumping Up

Jumping up is a behaviour that many owners and house visitors find annoying and in some cases can be dangerous. The best way to stop any dog from jumping up is to never reward him with attention when he does. All family members and visitors should get into the habit of only interacting with the dog when he has his feet (and preferably his bottom) on the floor, this is easily reinforced by giving a titbit whenever the dog sits voluntarily on greeting. If your dog is being persistent with jumping up , one or two well-timed releases of the Pet Corrector (pointing away from your pet as he jumps up) should be sufficient for your dog to associate the negative stimulus with his behaviour, therefore discouraging him in future.

Pet Corrector Tips:

  • For first time users please always read the full product usage guidelines provided with the Pet Corrector.
  • You must test your pet's sensitivity first. On initial use operate at greater than 1 metre distance.
  • Always direct the sound away from your pet's face.
  • Only use the Pet Corrector to interrupt a serious misdemeanour, it is not a substitute for poor training.
  • Make the shortest possible bursts because the canister will chill with prolonged use.
