Pets Corner in Hednesford has been named Pet Retail Chain of the Year at this year’s Pet Industry Federation Awards – the third consecutive win for Pets Corner.

The winners were announced during a glittering 50s themed ceremony on Tuesday 1st November, which was hosted by actor and comedian Chris Barrie.

The store, which is one of 155 shops that make up the family run, ethical pet retailer, was judged on its overall commercial success, customer service and satisfaction, staff training and contribution to innovation over the last 12 months. This is the third consecutive year that a Pets Corner store has won the coveted title with the company’s Cheltenham and Warminster stores winning in 2014 and 2015 respectively.

Lauren Elshaw, Manager at Pets Corner Hednesford, said:

“We are thrilled to have won Pet Retail Chain of the Year 2016 and join our colleagues at Cheltenham and Warminster in receiving this much coveted title."

Voted Best Retailer by RWAF

Pets Corner is extremely proud to announce that it has won Best Retailer of the Year at the prestigious Rabbit Welfare Association and Fund (RWAF) awards this year, with the most nominations from RWAF members.

The RWAF charity, that runs the popular ‘A Hutch is not Enough’ campaign, works to improve the lives of domestic rabbits across the UK through education and communication as, although being the third most popular pet for Brits, rabbits are still one of the most neglected domestic animals, often through ignorance.

Animal welfare is at the heart of the Pets Corner brand. Staff are trained to ensure rabbits are only sold to knowledgeable, suitable owners and always in sex-guaranteed pairs, unless they are being homed with an existing neutered rabbit. Pets Corner sells some of the largest hutches and runs of any pet retailer and the quality of care advice is highly regarded.

The award comes at the perfect time as Pets Corner has just launched its “Bunnies aren’t for Easter” campaign with the company putting a hold on all sales of rabbits over the Easter period to deter careless and spontaneous purchases.

Pets Corner has also signed up to the RWAF retailer charter, promising to sell large hutches and runs and making a long-term commitment to rabbit welfare.

Dean Richmond, Managing Director of Pets Corner, said:

“I am extremely pleased to be honoured with this industry accolade for Pets Corner and all of the staff across the country. We put animal welfare before any other consideration at Pets Corner and it is amazing to have this recognised by such a respected organisation as the RWAF. We will continue to push the boundaries within our industry to constantly improve pets’ lives.”

Rae Todd, from the RWAF, adds:

“The inaugural RWAF Retailer of the Year award going to Pets Corner will hopefully spread the word so more examples of good welfare standards can be used to improve the industry as a whole. Thanks to everyone who took the time to make a nomination and congratulations to Pets Corner on their achievements.”

Pets Corner win Pet Retailer of the Year

Family run pet retail store chain, Pets Corner, is extremely proud to announce that its Cheltenham store has just been named as the winner of the prestigious Pet Retailer of the Year category at the Pet Industry Awards 2014. The national awards recognise the outstanding work of pet businesses in the UK.

The winners were announced at a black-tie event hosted by former professional boxer and legend, Frank Bruno MBE, at Whittlebury Hall Hotel, Towcester on Thursday 23rd October 2014.

Said Pets Corner Managing Director, Dean Richmond:

"We were advised when we were shortlisted that the calibre for nominations received from pet businesses was the highest seen in the competition's history. The judging panel therefore had the unenviable task of whittling all the finalists down and we are over the moon that we won our award."

"This is the first time we have entered the Retailer of the Year category and of course walking straight to victory is just incredible. Huge congratulations go to our Cheltenham team for being so fantastic."

In order to be shortlisted, retailers had to prove commercial success, outstanding customer service and satisfaction, details of staff training and innovation. Those who met these high standards were then mystery shopped to determine the winner.

Added Pets Corner Cheltenham Store Manager, Naomi Timbrell:

"We were flattered and incredibly pleased when we heard that we had been shortlisted, but to actually win is simply amazing. We were genuinely surprised when they called our name."

"We have no idea when we were mystery shopped, the judges cleverly kept it really quiet. Our store has changed a lot in the past year and I have a fantastic team. Our customers often comment on how well we work together and are grateful for our real love and passion for animals. Pets Corner is a family, we love being a part of it and pride ourselves on the presentation and appearance of our store, working hard every day to maintain it."

"I would like to take this opportunity to send a massive thank you to all at the Cheltenham store and the rest of the Pets Corner family too, as without them this fantastic achievement would of course not been possible."
