The 5 Signs Your Dog Loves You
Published date: 07 February 2025

We adore our furry friends, but it’s sometimes a shame we can’t hear our dogs say they love us back.
Well in honour of Valentine’s Day, I’m here to show you five ways your dog shows their adoration.
1) They Bring You Their Toys
Nothing says love like sharing! Bringing you their favourite fuzzy teddy is a sure sign of their devotion to you as an owner. This is an invitation to play and to spend more time with you.
Playing is one of the best ways to strengthen your bond with your canine companion. Play is also a fantastic way to exercise your dog’s body and mind. Read more about the importance of play.
Why not treat your pooch to a brand new toy?
2) They Follow You
If your dog frequently becomes your shadow, it can only mean love. Our canine companions evolved from pack animals, so by following you, they are showing you just how much they trust you.
Still, tripping over your dog constantly can get a little frustrating. So, for those moments when you just need a little peace, why not create some mental enrichment games? Watch Our Mental Enrichment Guide.
Need something yummy to fill their treat toy? Why not say I Love You with a Valentines Edition McAdams Tray.
3) The Full Body Wiggle!
A fearful or worried dog is likely to have stiff or tense movements. Loved-up puppies will have loose body language and are likely to wriggle their whole body in your presence.
Essentially your dog is a soppy floppy baby who loves you very much.
4) The Helicopter Tail
Tail communication is certainly a complex subject, and it would be simplistic to say a wagging tail is always a positive sign. Paying attention to your dog’s body language is important, so you can better understand when they are feeling anxious, threatened or happy.
A tucked tail is a sure sign of stress and fear but a tail that is slightly upright and wagging (not too heavily) from side to side is more than likely a greeting and a sign of happiness.
The helicopter tail, however, is a sure sign your dog is happy to see you. This is where the wagging intensifies, and the tail starts to go all over the place. Normally knocking over anything at tail level…
5) They Sleep Alongside You
Before many of us got our pups, we would swear that we would be ultra-strict with our house rules.
I know for most of you, these rules were broken immediately. Your canine companion sneaks their way into your bed every single night and regularly jumps up on the sofa.
Well, the good news is that resting beside you is a sure sign of love and trust. Dogs naturally feel more vulnerable when sleeping, so snuggling close to their favourite human shows they feel secure and safe in your company.
Cuddling is lovely, but supported sleep is better, especially as our pooches grow older. Browse our extensive premium dog bed range.
So, there you have it, your dog truly loves you. I hope you and your best furry friend can find ways to show how much you care every single day.
