G-G-Ghosts?! How to Keep Pets Safe over Halloween

Spooky Season is upon us! *Insert witches’ cackle here*
As much as we might like a good scare around Halloween, we certainly don’t want our furry friends involved.
So, here are our top tips for a stress-free and safe Halloween for your pets.
Hide the Treats!
Many of us will be enjoying Halloween-themed chocolate during October, with trick-or-treating sure to bring a few more sweets into our homes.
Unfortunately, our tasty treats are toxic to our furry friends and can be fatal if ingested. An accidental nibble here or there can result in severe abdominal pains, sickness, diarrhoea and dehydration. If you suspect your dog or cat has eaten chocolate or any human treats, consult a vet ASAP.

Find your nearest Pet Practice.
It is best to munch through all your chocolate before your pet gets a chance to… Or the less greedy option is to store all human sweets and treats away safely. Put leftover treats in high cupboards or secure locked places.
Of course, our beloved pets should still get to enjoy something tasty over Halloween, so how about some soft pumpkin and turkey treats?
Make Trick-or-Treating Less Stressful
If you get many trick-or-treaters passing through your neighbourhood, you may wish to grab a few extra sweets for any ghosts, goblins, or witches that come knocking.
If your pet loves people and isn’t worried by a few more visitors, then of course, this is a cute way to delight the local children.
However, if you have an anxious dog or cat, or one who is worried by strangers, repeated knocks at the door are likely to trigger a lot of fear. You could still participate in the festivities of Halloween by popping some sweets outside for kids and parents to take.
With all the extra noise outside, it is worth giving your furry friend an extra source of comfort. Calming plug-ins can help take the edge off a stressful situation.

Keep Decorations out of Reach
If you like to make your home feel spooky and autumnal, remember to keep decorations away from your furry friends. Dangling ghosts and light-up pumpkins could be tempting toys or chews for some of our dogs and cats.
Remember, distraction is key! Load up an interactive rubber toy with some delicious soft treats.
For those feisty felines, distract them with a play session that uses their natural hunting instincts. Browse our exciting range of toys.
