Raw Bones for Dogs and Cats

If your dog could talk, we bet that his first ask would be to chomp on a raw meaty bone!

Dogs and Bones have been attributed to each together since dogs and humans first started to co habit.  Early pet owners would have witnessed pets eating their original biological diet of raw meaty bones, carcasses, scavenged titbits and prey kill. Indeed modern cat owners often still do! Chewing and eating bones provides many different nutrients and also provide a calming species appropriate instinctive behaviour for a pet to do. Because it is so calming chewing raw bones can also influence many behavioural issues too.

When given in their raw state bones are completely different in molecular structure to cooked bones. Cooked bones should Never be fed! Cooked bones will have had their moisture content reduced through the cooking process and as a result will be brittle and could, and often do, cause choking. Raw meaty bones still contain their moisture content and are more flexible and safer. Just think of the amount of cats that safely eat raw bones of rabbits and birds every day in our back gardens!

A dog’s strong stomach pH of pH 1-2 is more than capable of ‘fizzing away’ at these bones and digest them, just as nature intended.

Nutritional Benefits

You may be surprised to know just how many nutrients are in the raw meaty bones you provide for your pet! Especially those from the bones and chewing meats, which still have some meaty bits attached and the important nourishing bone marrow still running through them.

Here is a list of some of the wonderful nutrients raw meaty bones can provide:

  • Calcium + the Magnesium, Boron and Vitamin D that Calcium needs to become bone tissue within your pet’s body. Diary products do not contain magnesium or boron levels sufficient to provide adequate calcium to bone tissue uptake, raw meaty bones do!

  • Glucosamine and Chondriotin + the co-enzymes needed for these nutrients to be used by the body for joints and gut cell lining. How many of us add these supplements to our dog as diets? Raw Meaty Bones provide a wonderful way to ensure your pet is getting these nutrients on a regular basis.

  • Essential Fatty Acids (omega 3 fats) – these nutrients are very sensitive to heat and even sunlight. They can be lost during the heating, cooking process of processed pet foods. Raw Meaty Bones can play a wonderful role in providing these health giving nutrients for your pets.

They also contain: Vitamin K2, Manganese, Phosphorus, Anti-oxidants, Vitamin E, Vitamin A and natural form amino acids.

Raw Meaty Bones can be found in the freezer section of many Pets Corner Stores.

They are even safe to feed to puppies over 12 weeks of age. Puppies and older dogs with weaker teeth are best avoiding the harder knuckle bones and marrow bones.  Bull breed adult dogs are better with the larger bones such as knuckle or marrow to chew rather than eat.

So go on, treat your dog or cat to the chewy goodness of raw meaty bones!
